JiveX PDF Print Gateway

Don‘t Print, Go Digital

Most treatment-relevant patient information is still not available in digital format. Hearing tests and pulmonary function results are good examples of how attending physicians are repeatedly forced to consult paper printouts during the course of treatment. This is because individual PC workstation solutions for diagnosis are connected only to printer interfaces, and communicating via a HL7 interface is economically unattractive.

This has several disadvantages: Paper printouts can only be in one place at any one time, are easier to lose, and require outdated analog archiving that must be performed and managed by hand.

And at a time when an increasing amount of medical information is available in digital format, there is a danger that paper printouts – which are not included in this digital information – will not be taken into account during the diagnosis process.

JiveX PDF Print Gateway is a simple, convenient and economical solution that enables paper-based data to be integrated into digital patient files.

Functional Highlights DICOM conversion – the basis for digitalization

Instead of generating a printout, the PDF Print Gateway takes information from modalities that would normally generate paper and converts it to DICOM. Users can input the results of, for example, hearing tests or pulmonary function results directly into the digital environment by triggering a print job.

More security with direct patient reference
Converting clinical information to the tried-and-tested DICOM format has another benefit: DICOM worklists, which enable direct communication with the modalities via the Worklist Broker.

If, for example, a job is generated in the HIS, this can be made available to the JiveX PDF Print Gateway as a HL7 Order Entry Message (ORM) via the Worklist Broker.

Conversely, tests generated with the JiveX PDF Print Gateway are linked with the corresponding patient data in the HIS via the worklist. This system enables data which were previously paper-based to be digitally mapped on a monitor and added to the patient’s file. Naturally, the data are also added to the archive using this method. Information is assigned to patients using either the patient or job number. Test results are accessed from the HIS in the same way that radiology results are recalled.

The clear link between patient and image data or documents fulfills a key criterion for quality assurance. This solution allows any number of documents to be securely incorporated into diagnosis processes.
